Heavy Goods Vehicle Insurance
Large transport vehicles that weigh in excess of 4 tons are classified as Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV). They are used all around the world for transporting goods, livestock and day-to-day items in large amounts. So it becomes mandatory for the transport companies that own HGVs to have HGV insurance to cover them against any sort of damage in the case of an incident.
As they are used to haul items through all over the country, it is recommended that all owners have HGV insurance. It looks like a heavy price in the beginning, but over time you will realize that cutting costs in the short term never pays off. You could opt for the cheap HGV insurance that covers only against the cost of damage caused by trucks to people or livestock, or you could opt for an extensive insurance package.
The extensive insurance package insures any damage to the truck or driver as well as the goods the truck is ferrying. It also covers the truck in the unfortunate event of a theft, (reminds of the hoists in The Sopranos). But beware, the insurance cover becomes void if the truck is transporting any hazardous materials. Carrying hazardous and/or dangerous materials requires extra insurance. It is always difficult to find insurance companies that cover chemicals, explosives or biological hazards.
